Greg Maddux

Los Angeles Dodgers

Pitch Repertoire At-A-Glance

Although they have not thrown an MLB pitch in 2024, Greg Maddux threw 4,399 pitches that were tracked by the PITCHf/x system between 2007 and 2008, including pitches thrown in the MLB Regular Season and Spring Training. In 2008, they relied primarily on their Sinker (84mph) and Change using a Circle Change grip (79mph), also mixing in a Cutter (83mph). He also rarely threw a Curve (71mph), Slider (78mph) and Fourseam Fastball (85mph).

In 2008, compared to other RHP:
Their sinker is so slow that it is substantially gravitational, generates fewer whiffs/swing compared to other pitchers' sinkers, has less armside run than typical and has some natural sinking action. Their change using a circle change grip comes in below hitting speed, has surprising cut action and has some natural sink to it. Their cutter comes in below hitting speed, is basically never swung at and missed compared to other pitchers' cutters, results in more flyballs compared to other pitchers' cutters and has some natural sink. Their curve comes in below hitting speed, is basically never swung at and missed compared to other pitchers' curves, has sweeping glove-side movement and results in more flyballs compared to other pitchers' curves. Their slider (take this with a grain of salt because they've only thrown 17 of them in 2008) comes in below hitting speed, is basically never swung at and missed compared to other pitchers' sliders, is an extreme flyball pitch compared to other pitchers' sliders, has short glove-side cut and has less than expected depth. Their fourseam fastball (take this with a grain of salt because they've only thrown 2 of them in 2008) comes in below hitting speed, has heavy sinking action, is basically never swung at and missed compared to other pitchers' fourseamers, is an extreme flyball pitch compared to other pitchers' fourseamers and has slight armside run.
