Ryan Franklin

St. Louis Cardinals

Pitch Repertoire At-A-Glance

Although they have not thrown an MLB pitch in 2024, Ryan Franklin threw 4,158 pitches that were tracked by the PITCHf/x system between 2007 and 2011, all of them occuring in the MLB Regular Season. In 2011, they relied primarily on their Fourseam Fastball (91mph), also mixing in a Sinker (92mph), Splitter (84mph), Curve (78mph) and Slider (86mph). He also rarely threw a Knuckleball (80mph) and Cutter (90mph).

In 2011, compared to other RHP:
Their fourseam fastball has less armside movement than typical, has some natural sinking action and has slightly below average velo. Their sinker has less armside run than typical and results in somewhat more flyballs compared to other pitchers' sinkers. Their splitter has some natural sink to it and results in somewhat more flyballs compared to other pitchers' splitters. Their curve is basically never swung at and missed compared to other pitchers' curves, has a sharp downward bite and results in somewhat more flyballs compared to other pitchers' curves. Their slider is a real worm killer that generates an extreme number of groundballs compared to other pitchers' sliders and is basically never swung at and missed compared to other pitchers' sliders. Their knuckleball (take this with a grain of salt because they've only thrown 14 of them in 2011) flutters and floats unpredictably toward the plate. Their cutter (take this with a grain of salt because they've only thrown 10 of them in 2011) is an extreme flyball pitch compared to other pitchers' cutters, has good "rise", has slightly above average velo and has strong cutting action.
