Jeff Karstens

Pittsburgh Pirates

Pitch Repertoire At-A-Glance

Although they have not thrown an MLB pitch in 2024, Jeff Karstens threw 7,949 pitches that were tracked by the PITCHf/x system between 2007 and 2012, all of them occuring in the MLB Regular Season. In 2012, they relied primarily on their Fourseam Fastball (91mph) and Sinker (90mph), also mixing in a Curve (71mph), Slider (80mph) and Change (82mph). He also rarely threw a Cutter (86mph).

In 2012, compared to other RHP:
Their fourseam fastball has some natural sinking action, results in somewhat more flyballs compared to other pitchers' fourseamers and has slightly below average velo. Their sinker generates fewer whiffs/swing compared to other pitchers' sinkers, results in somewhat more flyballs compared to other pitchers' sinkers, has slightly below average velo and has some natural sinking action. Their curve comes in below hitting speed, has sweeping glove-side movement, has a sharp downward bite and results in somewhat more flyballs compared to other pitchers' curves. Their slider comes in below hitting speed, has exceptional depth, results in more flyballs compared to other pitchers' sliders and has short glove-side cut. Their change results in somewhat more flyballs compared to other pitchers' changeups, has slightly below average velo and has some natural sink to it. Their cutter (take this with a grain of salt because they've only thrown 8 of them in 2012) is basically never swung at and missed compared to other pitchers' cutters, is an extreme flyball pitch compared to other pitchers' cutters, has slightly below average velo and has strong cutting action.
