Pitch Repertoire At-A-Glance

Although they have not thrown an MLB pitch in 2024, Daniel Herrera threw 1,712 pitches that were tracked by the PITCHf/x system between 2008 and 2011, including pitches thrown in the MLB Regular Season and Spring Training. In 2011, they relied primarily on their Sinker (82mph), Screwball (67mph) and Slider (74mph), also mixing in a Cutter (82mph) and Fourseam Fastball (84mph). He also rarely threw a Change (83mph).

In 2011, compared to other LHP:
Their sinker is so slow that it is substantially gravitational, has heavy sinking action, generates fewer whiffs/swing compared to other pitchers' sinkers and has slight armside run. Their screwball is a rare pitch that shows elements of real downward movement induced by topspin. Their slider comes in below hitting speed, sweeps across the zone, has exceptional depth and generates fewer whiffs/swing compared to other pitchers' sliders. Their cutter (take this with a grain of salt because they've only thrown 13 of them in 2011) comes in below hitting speed, generates an extremely high number of swings & misses compared to other pitchers' cutters, has heavy sink and has little cutting action. Their fourseam fastball (take this with a grain of salt because they've only thrown 10 of them in 2011) comes in below hitting speed, has heavy sinking action, is basically never swung at and missed compared to other pitchers' fourseamers, results in more flyballs compared to other pitchers' fourseamers and has slight armside run. Their change (take this with a grain of salt because they've only thrown 1 of them in 2011) is basically never swung at and missed compared to other pitchers' changeups, has an obvious armside fade, dives down out of the zone and is an extreme flyball pitch compared to other pitchers' changeups.
