San Diego Padres
Although they have not thrown an MLB pitch in 2024, Ryan Carpenter threw 1,110 pitches that were tracked by the PITCHf/x system between 2018 and 2019, all of them occuring in the MLB Regular Season. In 2019, they relied primarily on their Slider (82mph), Sinker (90mph) and Fourseam Fastball (90mph), also mixing in a Change (83mph) and Curve (76mph).
In 2019, compared to other LHP:
Their slider generates fewer whiffs/swing compared to other pitchers' sliders, has short glove-side cut, results in somewhat more flyballs compared to other pitchers' sliders and has some two-plane movement. Their sinker results in somewhat more flyballs compared to other pitchers' sinkers and has some natural sinking action. Their fourseam fastball generates fewer whiffs/swing compared to other pitchers' fourseamers, has some natural sinking action and has essentially average velo. Their change dives down out of the zone and generates fewer whiffs/swing compared to other pitchers' changeups. Their curve has an exceptional bite, has sweeping glove-side movement, generates fewer whiffs/swing compared to other pitchers' curves and results in somewhat more flyballs compared to other pitchers' curves.
