Pitch Repertoire At-A-Glance

Although they have not thrown an MLB pitch in 2024, Sam Coonrod threw 2,348 pitches that were tracked by the PITCHf/x system between 2019 and 2023, including pitches thrown in the MLB Regular Season, The World Baseball Classic and Spring Training. In 2023, they relied primarily on their Sinker (95mph) and Cutter (93mph), also mixing in a Slider (83mph), Fourseam Fastball (96mph) and Change (89mph). He also rarely threw a Curve (82mph).

In 2023, compared to other RHP:
Their sinker is blazing fast, results in many more groundballs compared to other pitchers' sinkers, has slight armside run and has some natural sinking action. Their cutter is blazing fast, is an extreme flyball pitch compared to other pitchers' cutters, has surprisingly little cutting action and has good "rise". Their slider sweeps across the zone, is an extreme flyball pitch compared to other pitchers' sliders and generates more whiffs/swing compared to other pitchers' sliders. Their fourseam fastball generates an extremely high number of swings & misses compared to other pitchers' fourseamers, results in more flyballs compared to other pitchers' fourseamers, has some natural sinking action and has well above average velo. Their change is thrown extremely hard, dives down out of the zone and has slight armside fade. Their curve (take this with a grain of salt because they've only thrown 2 of them in 2023) is basically never swung at and missed compared to other pitchers' curves, is much harder than usual, results in more flyballs compared to other pitchers' curves and has a sharp downward bite.
