updated, still no distinction b'twn four- and two-seamers but fastballs are now sinkers and sliders are now cutters. Or riders (a la Max Marchi) and slutters (a la Me)...
card updating now
nitpicking is what these need ...
so just two 2008 games and otherwise looks ok....right?
I agree. The classifications got set that way a few years ago and I kept 'em that way. Once we see him this season I'll start going back and correcting it.
I know Dan has worked on it, it's somewhere deep in the pipeline for our player cards.
It's due in part to Samardzija's varying speed and pitch mix. Combined you get results like that. He generally runs the normal gap of about .5 to 1.5 mph on his fastball/sinker.

'tis a cutter, not a four-seamer.
Henry Rodriguez is close, but a wee bit slower and a wee bit less drop --- he doesn't quite hit the -40/85 mark.
Cutters, sliders, slutters .... grips and results .... starting a thread here hoping to pick-up some twitters who are talking about this ---- MadBum is on my 'fix' list, his cutter/slider over time...
the line can be blurred, and it can be tricky if the pitcher is throwing from a low arm slot (a curve thrown sidearm will look like a slider). But sliders are usually 7 mph or so off a fastball,...

I had it as a slider originally, or actually a mish-mash of SL and CU. At that speed, pushing the -40 inch drop says "top...
good question. The better question is has he thrown more than one ....

I want to find more before doing that, but I can send you the list if you're anxious to jump on it.
I have 29 changes tagged from June thru September of 2011
Here's another game in DC from 2010, you can see a group of 4 four-seamers

it's the 0-0 pitch to Ian Desmond in the first inning, me thinks. Off to mlbtv
