San Francisco Giants
Although they have not thrown an MLB pitch in 2023, Sergio Romo threw 11,905 pitches that were tracked by the PITCHf/x system between 2008 and 2022, including pitches thrown in the MLB Regular Season, the MLB Postseason and Spring Training. In 2022, they relied primarily on their Slider (77mph) and Sinker (86mph), also mixing in a Change (80mph). He also rarely threw a Fourseam Fastball (85mph).
In 2022, compared to other RHP:
Their slider comes in below hitting speed, sweeps across the zone, is an extreme flyball pitch compared to other pitchers' sliders, generates fewer whiffs/swing compared to other pitchers' sliders and has less than expected depth. Their sinker is so slow that it is substantially gravitational, has heavy sinking action, has an obvious tail, generates a high number of swings & misses compared to other pitchers' sinkers and results in more flyballs compared to other pitchers' sinkers. Their change has an obvious armside fade, has below average velo, generates fewer whiffs/swing compared to other pitchers' changeups, results in somewhat more flyballs compared to other pitchers' changeups and has some natural sink to it. Their fourseam fastball (take this with a grain of salt because they've only thrown 12 of them in 2022) comes in below hitting speed, generates an extremely high number of swings & misses compared to other pitchers' fourseamers, has heavy sinking action, is an extreme flyball pitch compared to other pitchers' fourseamers and has slight armside run.
