Washington Nationals
Although they have not thrown an MLB pitch in 2024, Spenser Watkins threw 4,157 pitches that were tracked by the PITCHf/x system between 2021 and 2023, including pitches thrown in the MLB Regular Season and Spring Training. In 2023, they relied primarily on their Cutter (88mph) and Fourseam Fastball (92mph), also mixing in a Sinker (91mph), Slider (80mph) and Curve (77mph). He also rarely threw a Splitter (83mph) and Change (86mph).
In 2023, compared to other RHP:
Their cutter is a real worm killer that generates an extreme number of groundballs compared to other pitchers' cutters, has extreme cut action and has some natural sink. Their fourseam fastball is straight as an arrow, has some natural sinking action, has essentially average velo and results in somewhat more groundballs compared to other pitchers' fourseamers. Their sinker has surprisingly little armside run. Their slider comes in below hitting speed, sweeps across the zone, has exceptional depth and results in more flyballs compared to other pitchers' sliders. Their curve generates a high number of swings & misses compared to other pitchers' curves and has a sharp downward bite. Their splitter is basically never swung at and missed compared to other pitchers' splitters, has surprising cut action, is an extreme flyball pitch compared to other pitchers' splitters and has some natural sink to it. Their change results in more flyballs compared to other pitchers' changeups and is slightly firmer than usual.
