Pitch Repertoire At-A-Glance

Although they have not thrown an MLB pitch in 2024, Randy Choate threw 3,844 pitches that were tracked by the PITCHf/x system between 2009 and 2015, including pitches thrown in the MLB Regular Season, the MLB Postseason and Spring Training. In 2015, they relied primarily on their Sinker using a Two-seam Fastball grip (84mph) and Slider (75mph).

In 2015, compared to other LHP:
Their sinker using a two-seam fastball grip is so slow that it is substantially gravitational, has heavy sinking action, is a real worm killer that generates an extreme number of groundballs compared to other pitchers' sinkers and has surprisingly little armside run. Their slider comes in below hitting speed, sweeps across the zone, generates a high number of swings & misses compared to other pitchers' sliders, has less than expected depth and results in somewhat more flyballs compared to other pitchers' sliders.
